The overall aim of this year’s workshop is to enhance knowledge on political and electoral behaviour in Greece and Southern Europe during the Great Recession. GrEPOP promotes and encourages the application of quantitative analysis in political science. From this perspective, we accept proposals for papers conducting research engaging with empirical data (e.g. public opinion surveys, electoral results, online surveys, party manifestos). Through this year’s collaboration with the SG on SEP, we aim to strengthen the international dimension of the conference and reinforce the broader Southern European perspective.

We are especially interested in panels and papers that discuss the following themes:

  • Attitudes towards democracy
  • Populism
  • Social movements
  • National and European elections
  • Referenda
  • Radicalisation
  • Party competition
  • New methods in political science (i.e. experiments, machine learning)
  • Online surveys and Voting Advice Applications
  • Big Data methods in Political Science
  • Analysis of party platforms and speeches
  • Political personnel and party leaders
  • Intraparty structures
  • Electoral volatility
  • Social and political cleavages

The ECPR Standing Group on Southern European Politics was established in 1992 with the aim of promoting social science research into contemporary Southern Europe. We aim to attract colleagues at all stages of their professional career including established scholars, PhD candidates, and post-doctoral researchers. Our activities include organizing conferences sections and panels both inside and outside the framework of ECPR (the European Consortium of Political Research). We also aim to promote networking among scholars in the field through our website, email list, and Facebook group.

The Centre for Political Research is a Laboratory of Political Sociology and Comparative Political Analysis at the Department of Political Science and History at the Panteion University of Athens. The aims of the centre are: To design and conduct political and sociological research. To contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching and research activities of the department of political science and History. To cooperate with other educational, research and scientific institutions in Greece and abroad, on subjects of common interest related to political and sociological research and the dissemination of electoral results. Finally, CPS aims at undertaking any other appropriate initiative needed to achieve the above-mentioned objectives.
